Twas the month before Christmas and all through the (Jigsaw) house, a few creatures were stirring, but no sign of a mouse.

The festive period is a popular time for us at Jigsaw, with lots of visitors looking to make the most of the British countryside and its beautiful winter scenery. The Cotswolds and Dorset are wonderful locations to enjoy Christmas markets and enjoy some last-minute shopping in the run-up to the festive period. Take a look at some of our top Christmas market picks and start getting into the Christmas spirit!

 

Cotswold Christmas Markets


Bourton-on-the-Water Christmas Lights switch-on 1st December

Bourton-on-the-Water is a gorgeous setting to enjoy the festive season. The village looks perfect lit-up for the Christmas period, and you can see the lights being switched on the 1st of December. Bourton-on-the-Water has some great shops to purchase both traditional Christmas gifts, local produce and gifts from the many boutiques you wont find anywhere else.

Broadway Christmas Market 24th November + 1st December

Two special evenings are taking place in Broadway this year, beginning the Cotswold Christmas markets season and helping you get into the Christmas spirit. From 5.30-8.30pm, Broadways many fantastic stores will be open to enjoy some late-night shopping. The streets will be filled with carol singers and performers, with plenty of mulled-wine and food stalls to warm you up while you browse the shops.

Where to stay:Holly Cottageis a charming property which offers warmth and romance to visitors during the winter months. Located in Broadway, you can set off on foot to enjoy the Christmas markets, while being closely located to some other popular Cotswold towns and villages. Winchcombe Christmas Festival 5 December

The Winchcombe Christmas Festival is a much-loved Christmas event, showcasing a range of local produce and gifts. The town's shops offer a later opening time in addition to the many stalls which line the streets of this popular Cotswolds destination. Therell be music and mulled wine and the chance for children to meet Father Christmas. A lovely evening out, it will a Cotswold Christmas markets highlight for everyone.

Bath Christmas Market 23 November 10 December

Bath is a popular shopping destination at any time of year, but at Christmas, its certainly a sight to see. If you love a mix of well-known high-street stores and quaint boutiques, youll love the offering during the Bath Christmas Market. It can be easy to spend the entire day in Bath, so make sure you check out its great bars, pubs and restaurants during your visit. As one of the most popular Cotswold Christmas markets, prepare for it to be busy!

Where to stay:Yew Tree Farmhouseis one of our southern Cotswolds properties and is located near Bath. The Kingham Christmas Market 23rd December

If you like to enjoy a spot of shopping right up until the last minute, then Kinghams Christmas Market is perfect for you. Attracting visitors from all over the Cotswolds and beyond, the annual event is held in the town hall, raising money for the local school. Its one of the Cotswold Christmas markets that provides a good chance to pick up some handmade homewares and local food gifts, while also giving you the chance to enjoy the rest of Kingham.

Dorset Christmas Markets


Bournemouth Christmas Market 17 November 4th January

Christmas in Bournemouth is a jam-packed affair, with a great selection of events, market stalls and a new alpine market to help make sure you get everything you need for Christmas. Making a fun day out during your Jigsaw stay, you can experience Christmas in Bournemouth either during the day or evening, where youll be able to enjoy the lights against the gorgeous coastal backdrop.

Christmas at the Town Mill, Lyme Regis until 17th December

Visit the Town Mill at Lyme Regis to enjoy their amazing Christmas market. A good time to explore this stunning coastal town, you can pick up a great selection of gifts, visit Father Christmas and wander around with a glass of mulled wine while taking in the festive atmosphere.

Athelhampton House is the wonderful setting for the annual Dorset Food and Drink Fair, which features the great and the good of Dorsets food and drinks, as well as gifts, homewares and more. The event has become so popular that its now run over two days, so make sure you visit to join in the festive fun. Santa will be there on Sunday to help raise money forWeldmar Hospice Trust.
