Property details

Situated a short walk from Dovedale Woods, Beckwood is a converted 17th century silk mill providing accommodation over four floors. The enchanting garden has a mill stream bubbling through it, sun deck and lawn shaded by attractive apple trees.

Blockley is a delightful golden stone village, situated in the rolling hills of the North Cotswolds between Moreton-in-Marsh with direct rail links to London Paddington. The village has a unique collection of buildings reflecting its past glory of mills and silk production. It is a peaceful, charming village with a friendly community, centred round the café and well stocked shop.

There are an abundance of walks over the beautiful countryside. There are two pubs within walking distance (including the Great Western Arms), interesting shops and a variety of restaurants in the nearby villages and towns. A highly recommended pub is The Plough in Stretton-on-Fosse, a 10 minute drive.

We have been coming to Beckwood for so long that we fondly recall the days when it was lit only by gas lamps, we washed both crockery and ourselves in the brook, "borrowed" a lamb from the adjacent field and had one's butler light a fire in the grate to prepare supper. Parking the carriage and stabling the horses was just as much a challenge then as car parking now can be.
(how we wish we'd been able to visit in it's infancy when simply "Becksapling)
How much has changed and largely for the better. True, a decent mobile phone signal is a challenge, yet some consider that a blessing. This new fangled wi-fi stuff is quite sufficient for keeping in touch with family, one's stockbroker, the staff and the wider world.
Enjoy Beckwood's many virtues, it's quaintness, quirkiness and leave the 21st century behind just a little.

Our first return to Beckwood since our honeymoon in 1998, and we loved every minute. Charming and quirky a great place for a romantic break. Blockley is lovely, there are lovely walks from the front door. Further afield we walked around Moreton, Stow and Chipping Campden - all nice but Stow the best for shops and pubs. Must recommend the 'Horse and Groom' at Bourton on the Hill (5 minutes by car), absolutely fabulous food, but book as it can get busy. Lovely place, outstanding food, great service as well. Thanks for a great break, look forward to coming back in the summer or autumn so we can make use of the lovely garden

We had a wonderful weekend in Blockley. Loved the village and the Old Silk Mill is especially welcoming. We would return and the Great Western Arms was fabulous probably the friendliest pub in the Cotswolds we have ever stumbled across.

An amazing place to celebrate my 50th birthday. Really loved the cottage - especially the snowdrops and the bullfinch in the tree just outside the window. A great place to chill with tea and cake in front of a roaring fire. Enjoyed a really relaxing weekend - beautiful cottage in a beautiful village. Love the rope stair handrail!

A great hamper, fab cottage. The boys loved paddling in the stream, feeding sheep and being country boys. We barely moved out of the cottage it was so lovely, shop friendly for supplies and papers. Broadway Tower was good. A brilliantly equipped kitchen. We could well be back soon.
