Winchcombe

Winchcombe

The Anglo Saxon town of Winchcombe was once much more prominent place than it is today, it’s probably now most famous for Sudeley Castle which stands just a stones throw from the town centre.

Winchcombe is a good base for walking being close to Cleeve Hill and Common which provides fantastic views of both Winchcombe and Cheltenham.

There are also a number of long walks close by such as the Cotswolds Way and The Gloucestershire Way. When you’re back in town there are many restaurants to choose from such as the Wine and Sausage restaurant at The White Hart Inn, or perhaps some English tea at one of the tea shops such as the Lady Jane Tea Rooms. Winchcombe is also a fair trade town.

Winchcombe is also a good base to visit Prescott Hill Climb which hosts a number of events through the year and is home to the Bugatti Owners’ Club, and the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway which has many visiting engines such as City of Truro and Hogwart’s Castle running over its 10½ miles of track through the Cotswold countryside.
